And….

I forgot how to write. It’s been so long and overall I’ve done so little of it I don’t know how to string words together anymore. Didn’t really consider that a thing. I’ve also forgotten how to read. And then a pandemic became us. Goodness, oh none of it; So much pain, so much suffering, on a global scale.

But during all this I was allowed to spend time with my guitar, something I’ve always wanted to do. I’ve had my instrument for more than 10 years but it did do a lot of sitting in a closet before I started putting hours into it. So I’m only going to consider the past two years. I wanted to start off with Moonlight Sonata but there isn’t a full version of the all 3 measures of the score written for bass ‘by professionals’ and I didn’t want to exhaust myself trying to write one so I’d decided to start on a Bach piece; BWV1003 as my first piece and have so far made it through one movement and am on page 3 of 14 for the second movement. The First movement being the Grave:

Which took me about 8 months to get from zero to what’s seen at the end there. And the current measure I’m working on now being the Fuga:

I hope to finish the Fuga by August and then there’ll only be two more measures left. Having made it through a handful of other Bach pieces I knew it took time and effort to get anywhere with a musical instrument but this is a far sharper focused time and effort spent to get to any reasonable results. Maintaining that focus is exhausting. Despite ‘sitting around all day’ I did sleep fairly well after a day’s work.

I haven’t been moving about with the boat as much as I would have liked, a reoccurring theme. Instead tending to stay in one place to make it easier to get to work which is far inland, comparatively and to give myself more time with my instrument. Despite the excuses I did manage to get out and about before the fog came to the delta:

And I do have some more unused footage I should string together.
